I am a beginner of studying Chinese so please let me ask you.
If I look up 犬 it would tell me the meaning of dog. ok so far.
in the "Appears In:"-section it would tell me the radical appears in 狄.
This I can not see directly - so I look this one up as well.
So it tells me that 犭 in the character covers the part of "dog" which doesnt look to me as the same as 犬. Am I wrong at this point?1 vote
I used your site for help breaking down characters and have just arrived in China for some full-time study... Only to find you are blocked without a VPN :(. This is totally bizarre! Any idea why?1 vote
Make phonetic sets show simplified characters. (Or is there a way to do this already that I don't see?)1 vote
The new phonetic set list looks great. Except, There are a lot of them :( Would it be possible to format it so that the end user could sort them by the *amount of phonetic suggestions*?1 vote
is there a way to sort all characters by frequency? i see the number after clicking it (like zi being 9 or something). I want to just go down the list.
currently there’s no way to see the list. I’m merging it with this one: https://hanzicraft.uservoice.com/forums/186365-general/suggestions/15600075-list-by-frequency
This is now planned! Stay tuned.
In e.g. 喜, we get the Pronunciation Clue that the component 丷 is pronounced as 'xx5'. It has the same pinyin initial. But this is not the case; 'xx5' is clearly a placeholder for a component without a reading, for which reason HanziCraft should ignore them when listing Pronunciation Clues.1 vote
The "Also Appears In" section is great. Here's another similar idea.
If I give Hanzicraft 2 radicals, it should give me a list of all characters in which they are both used.1 vote
经 Decomposition fails to include the 𢀖 radical, and the Radical section doesn't include it either.
I'm a bit confused about this radical hower.
According to this page: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%F0%A2%80%96
The traditional form is 巠 and the simplified is 𢀖. However I cannot paste 𢀖 into Anki - it turns into a box that looks like 口 but is not. Moreover, other resources, aside from HanziCraft, incorrectly decopse simplified characters like 经 into 纟and 巠.1 vote
哦, 硪, 饿, 蛾, 俄, 峨, 鹅, 莪, 娥, 誐, 锇, 皒, 涐, 珴, 睋, 騀, 鵞, 䄉. Thanks for the awesome resource.1 vote
the "short info on mouseover for characters" doesn't work anymore...1 vote
Where did the free registration go? I need to try out a simplified (yes, with ads even) site before I pay for something I haven't experienced. Of course if I find it useful I will very pay for the service. I just want to make certain that I find it intuitive to play around with and learn from first.1 vote
Hey there Angela,
HanziCraft unfortunately hasn’t had free registration yet. However, I can definitely understand how useful it is to try a product before paying. I’m going to plan to implement a free trail so users could give it a go before paying.
Thanks for the nudge & great idea.
You mention that 一's final, "i" is the phonetic hint for 丝, but the two finals are different. 一 uses a long "i" and 丝 uses a short "i".
See the notes on this page.

I suppose there is something wrong with explaining the radical of 母 as (do not).1 vote
i really enjoy it to use your website, but it is really annoying that the advertisement is often covering the the words for the examples1 vote
the ads should definitely not be intrusive! Sorry about that.
Can you maybe send me a screenshot so I can see how it looks? What browser do you use?
- Don't see your idea?
